Here are the restaurants and other food facilities that Riverside County Department of Environmental Health inspectors temporarily shut down because of imminent health hazards between Nov. 6 and 12, 2020. If no reopening date is mentioned, the department had not listed that facility as reopened as of this publication.

Nekter Juice Bar, 12648 Limonite Ave. Suite 2D, Eastvale

Reason for closure: Cockroach infestation. The inspector saw numerous live nymph roaches.

Reopening date: Thursday, Nov. 12


Tacos El Colima Mexican Grill, food truck based at 3815 Wabash Drive, Jurupa Valley



Closure date: Monday, Nov. 9

Grade: Not graded

Reason for closure: No valid commissary agreement. Food trucks must have an agreement with a commissary where they can clean, fill up with fresh water and dump waste water each day they operate.

Non-closure inspections of note

Here are selected inspections at facilities that weren’t closed but had other significant issues.

Jimenez Market, at 5600 Mission Blvd. in Jurupa Valley, was inspected Tuesday, Nov. 10 and received a failing grade of 80/B with one critical violation, for food-contact surfaces not being clean. Dishes weren’t being washed, sanitized and dried properly and knives in the meat department had been put away dirty. An employee said utensils are washed only once a day. Among the 10 lesser violations, pork skins being dried to make chicharrones were left out at room temperature, hanging from a dirty and rusty rack, with a dusty and grimy fan blowing air on them. Also, a large pot of meat left out at an unsafe temperature was supposed to be thrown away but instead was put back in the cooler, and an employee didn’t wash hands. This was the market’s second failing grade this year.

Min’s Dumpling House, at 440 N. McKinley St. Suite 103 in Corona, was inspected Monday, Nov. 9 and received a failing grade of 80/B with three critical violations. Numerous employees were failing to wash hands properly, some dirty equipment was rinsed and put away as if clean, and a package of raw duck meat was being stored in the ice machine. Among the six lesser violations, a dirty and deteriorating cutting board was put on top of a trash bin and used as an extension of the food-prep table, and there was mold and mineral buildup inside the ice machine. Additionally, employees weren’t wearing face coverings as required by COVID-19 guidelines. This was the restaurant’s second failing grade since 2018.

Vallarta Catering, at 1750 California Ave. Suite 118 in Corona, was inspected Monday, Nov. 9 and received a failing grade of 80/B. Among the 13 violations, an employee didn’t wash hands, two sinks lacked soap, the salsa bar wasn’t keeping cold and was impounded, the person in charge didn’t know proper holding temperatures for food and there was “heavy mold growth” in the ice machine.

Pho Ha Nguyen, at 12625 Frederick St. Suite K6 in Moreno Valley, was inspected Monday, Nov. 9 and received a failing grade of 83/B with one critical violation. A cutting board wasn’t properly washed and dried. Among the 10 lesser violations, numerous items of food were sitting out at room temperature, and the cooking equipment, refrigerators, freezers, shelving and storage area needed cleaning. This was the restaurant’s second failing grade this year; it now faces an administrative hearing.

Eagle Glen Mobile, at 2261 Eagle Glen Parkway in Corona, was inspected Monday, Nov. 9 and received a failing grade of 83/B. Among the 14 violations, chicken and hot dogs were at unsafe temperatures in a unit that was impounded for not keeping hot enough, a handwashing sink didn’t have soap and there was mold in the ice machine.

Updates from past weeks

Alamilla’s Mexican Food, at 841 N. Main St. in Corona, which was closed Nov. 5 for the third time in less than a month because of cockroaches, was permitted to reopen Nov. 12.

Lucky Seafood Ranch Market – Kitchen, at 4513 La Sierra Ave. in Riverside, which failed a Nov. 4 inspection with a grade of 85/B and was closed because of a cockroach infestation, was permitted to reopen Nov. 6. It passed a Nov. 12 follow-up inspection with a score of 100/A.

The food market at Sam’s Family Spa, 70875 Dillon Road Suite A in Desert Hot Springs, which failed a Nov. 4 inspection with a grade of 88/B and was closed because of a rodent infestation, was permitted to reopen Nov. 10. It passed a follow-up inspection with a score of 100/A.

This list is published online on Fridays. Any updates as restaurants are reopened will be included in next week’s list.

All food facilities in the county are routinely inspected to ensure they meet health codes. A facility loses four points for each critical violation — and may have to close if the violation can’t be corrected immediately — and one or two points for minor violations. An A grade (90 to 100 points) is passing. Grades of B (80 to 89 points) and C (79 or below) are failing and typically require the proprietor to make improvements and be re-inspected.
