String Lights View this post on Instagram
I never really set up our front porch like this after we took it all down to be painted a year ago. Birds basically love this entire space and have created their own bathroom to one side, with no homeowner approval, mind you. Apparently every bird comes from miles to use our porch as their personal crap spot. It’s far enough away none should land on your head while sitting here though, who wants to come sip a cup of tea on the porch? .

String lights are the perfect way to boost ambiance in any outdoor space. They’re functional because they provide plenty of bright light for socializing or reading, but they’re also incredibly pretty.

If you have a large front porch but live close to nosy neighbors, add some curtains for a bit of privacy. The curtains don’t just shield you from curious onlookers. They also add a romantic touch.
Sitting Area View this post on Instagram
Today we played outside Watched church online Dug out a space for a new garden Took a walk through our neighborhood Enjoyed snuggles on the couch Cleaned the house with the windows open Put out seed for the birds Enjoyed a beautiful day with family Are the next few weeks going to be hectic and filled with anxiousness? Yes. Does this social distancing feel kinda weird? Yes. Am I really going to enjoy this extra time with my kids? HECK YES. I talked about it in my stories this afternoon, but I’m thankful for how proactive our government has been and even if this is not directly effecting you, I would encourage you to be sensitive to those who are struggling with anxiety and fear. This week, I’ll be sharing homeschool resources, activities, and parts of our routine for those who are anxious about keeping your children busy during the time off school. Today, I’m just grateful for all we have and when life goes back to normal, I think we will be stronger for it and have some beautiful memories to look back on. . . . . . #ourgatheredcottage #frontporch #frontporchfarmhouse #cottageliving #thecottagejournal #covid19 #coronavirus #cottage #marylandliving #cottagestyle #farmhousestyle #cottage #cottagelife #cottagestyle #muskoka #farmhousestyle #farmhouse #cozy #cozyhome #comfy #seasons #frontporchdecor #springcleaning #homeschool #homeschoolroom

A roomy porch can comfortably accommodate a sitting area that’s the perfect spot for enjoying post-dinner coffee. Choose comfortable furniture, and you’ll have a great place to read your next library loan.

Who says cut flowers are just for indoor spaces? Add a beautiful touch to your porch by decorating it with a vase filled with fresh blooms. Treat your porch like an indoor living space and take care of it the same way.

I’m a fan of using plants to decorate my front stoop. I’m not blessed with a substantial front balcony or porch, but I still make it a point to add beauty to my little step by adding plants.
Screened-In Porch View this post on Instagram
You ask me how it’s going living in a tiny home? I mean, this screened-in porch that @storm_allan made is a lifesaver! Although, on days like today, we spend most of our hours outside. I’m so grateful for our little space. It’s comfy and no one ever truly feels all that cramped. Even our dogs. DIY some wooden planters or buy them ready-made and add a natural touch to your porch. Regardless of porch size, a planter on both sides makes any front door look put together.

I’ve had great luck sourcing lanterns at the dollar store. They often pop up during springtime. Tea lights are a great low-cost alternative to expensive pillar candles. If the thought of lighting candles sounds annoying, opt for solar-powered LED lanterns with sensors that turn on the device as soon as it starts to get dark.
Go Dark View this post on Instagram
I’m still over here crushing on all the dark paint colors so I thought I would share a go-to favorite of mine – @benjaminmoore ‘s Black Panther is the perfect not-quite-black charcoal with a very subtle blue undertone. It tends to take on a different hue depending on the surface it’s applied to. Wood and brick bring out the darkness of it. Vinyl doors pull a bit more blue. I love it for accent shiplap walls, interior and exterior doors, and whole house exteriors.

People frequently choose light paint colors for their home and front porch (which makes complete sense) so who knew how amazing a dark color scheme would look? The dark paint used in this front porch is a bold and dramatic choice.

Happy Saturday! We’re enjoying this break from the heat, although it will be short lived! We spent the morning on the porch with our coffee and our pup, who’s doing much better! Thank you again for all the concern! I added some bats to the front porch to give it a spookier (although weak) Halloween vibe!

How adorable is this autumn-inspired front porch? Some people love to switch out decor every season. When stuff isn’t in use, make sure it’s stored safely in a waterproof bin and clearly labeled for easy reference later.

In life, sometimes it’s the little things that makes the heart sing, especially during a week that has been filled with such craziness. The Caronavirus and TP/hand sanitizer shortage that has escalated in the past few days, has been so crazy on so many levels and yet, in the mist of this, I got to do a refresh on my clients front porch for Spring. It was not only a release, but it was so FUN . I love when they trust me to turn the space I’m working on into their story. I listen to their likes and don’t likes (this client loves bunnies…can you spot them?) and get to know who they are as a couple or family and run from there. Sometimes they want me to use the decor they already have, or at least somethings and then I go and search for the right pieces for their home. It’s their style, their personality that I want to honor and bring forth for them. *⃣Swipe left to see the Before and Afters . Happy Friday Friends Let’s not let fear and panic grip our hearts, that’s what the enemy would love for us to do. Wooden Crates View this post on Instagram
Quirky, but I LOVE succulents. I am always looking for new pretty ones to try not to kill. They don’t tolerate cold, so they get moved into the garage all winter with some UV lights. Once the low temps are safely above 40, they can be moved back outside. This front porch shows how just a few changes can make a significant impact. A rustic-style front porch utilizes natural wood elements, a dramatic black door, black lighting fixtures, a friendly welcome mat, and wooden barrels. Set plants on top of those barrels in spring for extra visual interest.
